Tanya Brockett is a dynamic speaker, author, entrepreneur, and consultant. Over the past decade, Tanya has personally taught thousands of individuals how to successfully finance, launch, or grow their businesses. She has entertained, inspired, and surprised many writers in her editorial presentations at writer’s conferences as well. Tanya makes learning enjoyable and instigates positive learning experiences for her audiences. Tanya’s editorial and professional development career began with the international professional services firm, Ernst & Young, over twenty years ago. During her eight years with the professional development group of the firm, Tanya honed her editorial skills and began her journey into creating, writing, and presenting adult education programs.

Tanya has since been a lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia; an adjunct instructor of the Solopreneur Series, Entrepreneurship, and Book Publishing at UVa’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies; an instructor of small business courses at Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville, VA; a NxLevel Instructor at James Madison University’s SBDC; a certified instructor of the CORE FOUR Business Planning Course; and the developer and instructor of several classes at New Visions, New Ventures Women’s Business Center in Richmond, VA. In addition to business courses, Tanya also teaches new authors about the publishing and editorial process. She has presented at several writers’ conferences and has been a sponsor and guest presenter at writing workshops in Virginia. Her most popular workshop for writer’s conferences is entitled, “The Nuts & Bolts of Editing.” Writers of all levels are sure to pick up golden nuggets in this workshop!

Ms. Brockett is currently the owner of Hallagen Ink, an editorial consulting firm. Hallagen Ink instigates positive experiences in business and writing through consultations, presentations, and other editorial services to authors, academicians, graphic designers, and other businesses. Hallagen Ink also operates The Corporate Matchmakers: a service that facilitates prosperous relationships between author/experts and corporations who want to sponsor them. Hallagen Ink is also the distributor of Tanya’s first book on unsecured small business loans: The Loan Solution: Nine Steps to Community Express. This book enlightens small business owners about the lending process so that they may leverage their resources with those of others. As a small business consultant and trainer, Tanya has the pleasure of teaching seminars and workshops for entrepreneurs, providing direct consulting services to small business owners, and providing access to capital for small businesses. Tanya maintains professional relationships with several lenders to help her clients secure the financial resources they need to grow.

Tanya has been a small business advocate for fifteen years. Her relationship with entrepreneurs formally started at the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland, College Park. At Dingman, she managed the state’s only Manufacturing & Technology Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and served on the SBDC’s statewide professional development committee.

After returning to Virginia, Tanya became the first full-time consultant, and then the first woman director, of the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center (SBDC) where she counseled existing and aspiring entrepreneurs about all matters of business operation and management. Additionally, she taught thousands of participants in many workshops, seminars, and courses on business management, business start-up, business planning, marketing, and financing. She also represented the small business and economic development communities, as well as the SBDC, in a variety of presentations to organizations and local government bodies throughout the region.

After working with the SBDC, Tanya went on to own a small business consulting firm. It was here that Ms. Brockett was nominated as the SBA’s 2005 Financial Services Advocate of the Year in recognition of her contribution to the financial growth of hundreds of small businesses that year.

Tanya holds a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. All of her non-commerce hours were spent in the English Department at UVa, studying under such great writers as George Garrett. Tanya received a Masters of Business Administration from James Madison University.

Tanya has served her community in a variety of ways over the years. She was a member of the National Speakers Association – Virginia Chapter. She recently served as a Board appointed council member for the Crozet Community Advisory Council, and a member of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club. In the past, Tanya has served on the boards/executive committees of the Charlottesville Business Association, the Charlottesville Area School Business Alliance, the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Central Virginia Minority Business Association, and the Leadership Charlottesville Alumni Association. Tanya was also one of the initial members (and only non-attorney member) of the Intellectual Property Law Committee of the Charlottesville Albemarle Bar Association.

Tanya lives in Western Albemarle County, Virginia with her husband and three intelligent and beautiful daughters.
